The key to living areas is “flow”.
Living areas are about family time and communication. Recently, our rooms have become fragmented. We have a living room, an exercise room, an office (sometimes two!), a media room… and we no longer spend time in our homes the way we used to.

Jose Cardenas calls the central family room in the house a Conversation Area. It is a place where friends and family can comfortably gather, away from the kitchen.
The question is, when it comes to a “family room”, what is it you mean by “family”? You and your children? Just two of you? You and your two dogs? All of these are valid concepts, and your Living Area should reflect your purpose and how you want to use it.
